Different cultures in different times have assigned their own gemstones to particular calendar months or zodiacal signs and in my shop you will find mentioned the current systems in the United States and United Kingdom as well as the tropical zodiac.

  • January: Garnet
  • February: Amethyst
  • March: Aquamarine and Heliotrope/Bloodstone
  • April: Diamond and (UK) Rock Crystal
  • May: Emerald and (UK) Chrysoprase
  • June: Pearl, Moonstone and (US) Alexandrite
  • July: Ruby and (UK) Carnelian
  • August: Peridot and (UK) Sardonyx
  • September: Sapphire and (UK) Lapis lazuli
  • October: Opal and (US) Tourmaline
  • November: Topaz and Citrine
  • December: Tanzanite, Turquoise and (US) Zircon

The vernal (Lat. ver = spring) equinox marks the beginning of Aries, which means the dates of the zodiacal signs vary a bit from year to year. The dates quoted below were the ones in 2011-2012:

  • Aries (21.3.-20.4.): Garnet
  • Taurus (21.4.-21.5.): Amethyst
  • Gemini (22.5.-21.6.): Heliotrope/Bloodstone
  • Cancer (22.6.-22.7.): Sapphire
  • Leo (23.7.-22.8.): Agate
  • Virgo (23.8.-23.9.): Emerald
  • Libra (24.9.-23.10.): Onyx
  • Scorpio (24.10.-22.11.): Carnelian
  • Sagittarius (23.11.-21.12.): Chrysolite/Peridot
  • Capricorn (22.12.-20.1.): Beryl
  • Aquarius (21.1.-19.2.): Topaz
  • Pisces (20.2.-20.3.): Ruby
